Sunrise Care Home after its window replacement

Care

Care home glazing

Window and door replacement in care homes and supported living, carried out around residents who are at home all day.

Traditional brick elevation with replacement windows

Scope of works

Nobody moves out while we work.

A care home is the hardest kind of occupied building to work in, because the occupants are there all day, some of them are unwell, and a room without a window in it is not a room anybody can sit in. The work has to be planned in single rooms and finished the same day.

We replaced the windows at Sunrise Care Home. The specification questions that came up were the ones you would expect: restrictors, safe opening, and keeping rooms warm while the frame is out.

Specification

Care home glazing, to your specification.

Restrictors
Fitted to the limit your own risk assessment sets, consistent across the home.
Working pattern
One room opened, glazed, sealed and cleaned within the same day.
Safety glass
Toughened or laminated where the opening needs it, specified per room.
Thermal
Specified to the performance the project requires; the system is chosen to meet it.
Vetting
DBS-checked operatives, and site induction where the home requires it.

Every figure published here is one we can stand behind. Ask us for anything the table does not cover and we will send it to you in writing.

Scope

What we take on inside a care home.

01

Bedroom windows

One room opened at a time, glazed and made good before we leave it.

02

Communal areas

Lounges, dining rooms and conservatory glazing where the residents actually spend the day.

03

Safe opening

Restrictors and controlled opening where a resident could otherwise open a window fully.

04

Doors and entrances

Entrance doors and screens, coordinated with the access control the home already uses.

Working around residents

One room open at a time, closed before we go home.

We do not strip a corridor of windows and come back tomorrow. A room is opened, glazed, sealed and cleaned within the day so the resident sleeps in it that night. It is slower and it is the only way that works.

  • Single room working
  • Same day handback
  • Dust and noise kept down

Safe opening

The restrictor question comes up on every care job.

How far a window should open in a care setting is a decision for you and your own risk assessment, not for us. Tell us what the assessment says and we will fit hardware that matches it, rather than choosing a limit on your behalf.

  • Restrictors to your assessment
  • Consistent across the home
  • Serviceable hardware

Common settings

Care settings we work in.

Survey, access and the existing building decide the final route. These are the settings this work usually goes into.

Common questions

Care home glazing, asked and answered.

How do you work around residents?

One room is opened, glazed, sealed and cleaned within the same day, and made good before we leave it, so a resident is not left with a room they cannot sit in.

Are your operatives DBS checked?

Yes. DBS-checked operatives, and site induction where the home requires it.

What restrictors do you fit?

Restrictors fitted to the limit your own risk assessment sets, kept consistent across the home, with controlled opening where a resident could otherwise open a window fully.

Have you worked in a care home before?

Yes. We replaced the windows at Sunrise Care Home, where the specification questions were restrictors, safe opening, and keeping rooms warm while the frame is out.

What we can put on a pre-qualification questionnaire.

  • Constructionline Gold Pre-qualified for public and private sector tendering.
  • SSIP accredited Health and safety assessed under the Safety Schemes in Procurement umbrella.
  • DBS-checked operatives For schools, care settings and any site where the check is a condition of access.

Commercial enquiry

Send us the care home glazing brief.

Drawings, a window schedule, elevations or site photographs are all useful, and none of them is required. A postcode and a description of the building is enough to get a sensible answer back.

Project enquiry Tell us the basics.

A few useful details are enough. We confirm the exact specification after survey.
