Industrial and logistics

Industrial and logistics glazing

Office and welfare glazing, personnel doorsets and security rated openings on distribution, warehousing and manufacturing buildings.

Scope of works

A distribution centre does not really have an out of hours.

Industrial buildings put nearly all their glazing in one place: the office and welfare block at the front. That block is hung off a steel frame and wrapped in cladding rather than built into masonry, so the glazing meets a cladding rail and a liner tray instead of a brick reveal. The rest of the elevation is personnel doors, fire escapes and the occasional rooflight, spread across a footprint measured in acres.

The awkward part is usually the shift pattern. A warehouse running around the clock has no quiet week to hand anybody, so the work is sequenced around loading bays, yard traffic and whichever elevation is out of use that day. Send us the elevations and the shift pattern together, because we cannot plan the second one out of the first.

Scope

What we take on across an industrial site.

01

Office and welfare glazing

The windows, screens and entrance to the block at the front, which is where almost all of the glazing on these buildings lives.

02

Personnel and escape doorsets

Doors set into cladded elevations, including the escape doors that have to work on a route nobody uses daily.

03

Curtain walling to the frontage

Glazed elevations on the office block, where the building does its presenting.

04

Security rated openings

Ground floor and yard-side openings rated up to SR3 where the specification asks for it.

The front of the shed

The office block is a building within a building.

It has the windows, the entrance, the meeting rooms and the only elevation anybody photographs, and it is built to a completely different specification from the eighty metres of cladding beside it. So it gets surveyed and specified as its own glazing package rather than as a corner of the shed.

  • Glazing into cladding, not masonry
  • Entrance and reception screens
  • Meeting and welfare spaces

Working round the operation

The yard decides the programme more than the elevation does.

Loading bays run to a timetable, yard traffic does not stop for a scaffold, and the elevation you most want access to is usually the one with trailers against it. We agree access windows, exclusion zones and which elevations come out of service when, before anything is booked.

  • Access windows agreed in advance
  • Yard traffic and exclusion zones
  • Elevations released in sequence

Common questions

Industrial and logistics glazing, asked and answered.

Which part of an industrial building do you glaze?

The office and welfare block at the front, which is where almost all the glazing on these buildings lives: the windows and screens, the entrance, the personnel and escape doorsets, and curtain walling to the frontage.

Can you supply security rated doorsets?

Doorsets are security rated up to SR3, with PAS 24 and Secured by Design available where specified. Ground floor and yard-side openings are rated to what the specification asks for.

Can you work around a 24 hour operation?

Early starts, nights and weekends where the operation cannot pause, sequenced around loading bays, yard traffic and whichever elevation is out of use that day.

Where do you work?

Nationwide across England and Wales.

What we can put on a pre-qualification questionnaire.

  • Constructionline Gold Pre-qualified for public and private sector tendering.
  • SSIP accredited Health and safety assessed under the Safety Schemes in Procurement umbrella.
  • DBS-checked operatives For schools, care settings and any site where the check is a condition of access.

Commercial enquiry

Send us the industrial and logistics glazing brief.

Drawings, a window schedule, elevations or site photographs are all useful, and none of them is required. A postcode and a description of the building is enough to get a sensible answer back.

Project enquiry Tell us the basics.

A few useful details are enough. We confirm the exact specification after survey.
