Cat flap fitted into a bifold door, Leckhampstead

A cat flap is not cut into a double glazed pane. The flap goes into a new sealed unit made around it, and that unit takes the place of the one already in the door.

Cutting a hole in a sealed unit destroys it. The two panes and the seal between them are one component, and the moment that seal is broken the unit mists. So a cat flap in a glazed door means a new unit with the flap sealed into it where it is made, and that is what went into this door.

The unit went into the leaf that was already there. Nothing was replaced above the glass line, the doors kept their own handles and hardware, and the flap sits low in the pane where a cat expects to find it.

The last thing on the job was the locking. A bifold that has had a leaf worked on wants checking across the whole set rather than on the one door, so it was run round, closed and locked before we left.
