Window handle replacement, Haddenham

The handle had broken away from the spindle it turns. That leaves a window which cannot be locked and cannot be opened properly, on a frame and a pane with nothing wrong with them at all.

A uPVC window handle turns a square spindle, and that spindle drives the locking gear along the edge of the sash. When the handle parts company with it, as this one had, nothing moves: the window will not lock, and it will not open on demand either. The photograph of the old parts is the whole fault, in three pieces on the windowsill.

The repair was a new white locking handle on the existing fixing centres, so nothing had to be drilled out or filled, and the key lock came back with it. That last part matters upstairs, which is where this window is.

This is the smallest job we do. It is also the one most often turned into a quotation for a whole new window, and it does not need to be: the frame, the glass and the gear were all sound.
