Slide and fold doors in Milton Keynes
Slide & Fold Doors
Key specifications
Slide & Fold Doors
- U-value 1.4 W/m²K
- Panel width Up to 1000mm
- Colour choice Any RAL colour
- Security 10 point locking
How it opens
Open one panel. Or open the lot.
The panels slide along a track, and each one swings open by itself once it reaches the end. That means the opening is not a single decision you make once. You can walk through one leaf on a Tuesday in February, stand two of them back on a warm evening, and put the whole run away when the weather earns it.
One panel is the master door, and it behaves like an ordinary door. It has the handle, it is the one you use for the bins and the washing, and it opens without moving anything else. On four panels or more you can have a master door at each end.
- A master door for everyday access, on either end or both
- A ventilation position without standing the whole run back
- Panels stack together to one side when the run is fully open
The span
Add panels until the opening is covered.
Each panel goes up to 1000mm wide, and that figure includes the outer frame, so the sum is straightforward. There is no limit on how many panels you can have, which is why this suits an opening wider than a normal set of doors can reach.
Standard height runs to 2400mm. Taller can be done and is priced on application, and it can pull the maximum panel width back, so tell us the height you are working to early rather than at survey.
- 3.0m 3 panels
- 4.0m 4 panels
- 5.0m 5 panels
- 6.0m 6 panels
Closed
Shut, it is one face of glass.
The panels close into each other rather than past each other, so they interlock along their full height and pull up against a double weather seal. That is what gives the closed run its flat, continuous line, and it is why the door looks like a window wall from the garden rather than a row of leaves.
The hinges are concealed inside the panels and only come into play once the master door is open and a panel has been slid round to it. From outside there is nothing to see but glass, frame and the one handle on the master door.
- A ten point lock across the master door
- Panels interlocking into each other along their full height
- One handle on the run, and no hinge on show
Track and threshold
The floor carries it. Nothing hangs from the lintel.
The panels run on wheels along the bottom track, and that track carries all of their weight. Nothing hangs from the head. The manufacturer gives the reason worth knowing on a new build: a door that is not top hung keeps working when the structure above it settles or the lintel takes up its load, which is a normal part of a building being new.
A level threshold on the inside is achievable, and the manufacturer states the outside floor can finish 10mm below the top of the bottom track where the drainage is right. A cill is not needed if the drainage is handled another way, so the thing to settle with your builder is where the water goes.
- A flush internal threshold where the floor build-up allows it
- Drainage agreed with your builder before the door is made
- Sizes taken from the opening at survey before anything is ordered
Colour
Six finishes held, and any RAL beyond them.
Powder coating is baked onto the aluminium rather than painted over it, so it does not flake and it never wants redoing. Anthracite Grey and Signal White are the two held as standards, and between them they cover most of what goes out.
You can have a different colour inside and out, and any RAL beyond these six, confirmed against a sample before the doors are ordered. The frame is finished matt, or in a textured brushed-sand look that catches the light differently.
- Anthracite Grey RAL 7016
- Signal White RAL 9003
- Jet Black RAL 9005
- Slate Grey RAL 7015
- Agate Grey RAL 7038
- Silk Grey RAL 7044
Come and see it
Ten minutes with one beats ten minutes reading.
There is one standing in our Milton Keynes showroom, and it is the door in the film at the top of this page. Slide a panel round, swing it open on its own, and push the run closed until it pulls onto its seals. That is the part no page can do for you.
- Open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm
- 98 Alston Drive, Bradwell Abbey, MK13 9HF
Product questions
FAQs about Slide & Fold Doors
What else are slide and fold doors called?
You will see them called slide and swing doors, slide and pivot doors, or panoramic doors, and they are all describing the same thing: panels that slide along a track and swing open individually. We call them slide and fold because that is the name on our showroom and on our online designer, so the words match wherever you meet them.
How wide an opening can they cover?
Each aluminium panel goes up to 1000mm wide including the outer frame, and there is no limit on the number of panels, so four panels reach 4.0m and six reach 6.0m. Standard height runs to 2400mm in aluminium. Taller is possible, priced on application, and it can pull the maximum panel width back, so tell us the height early.
Can I open just one panel?
Yes, and it is the point of the door. One panel is the master door, it carries the handle and it opens on its own without moving the rest, so the run works on an ordinary February morning and not only on the days you want the whole wall open.
Can the threshold be flush with my floor?
A level threshold on the inside is achievable. The manufacturer states the outside floor can finish 10mm below the top of the bottom track where the drainage is right, and a cill is not needed if the water is handled another way. Settle the drainage with your builder before the door is made rather than at installation.
Can I try one before I order?
Yes, and it is worth doing. There is one standing in our Milton Keynes showroom, so you can slide a panel round, swing it open on its own and close the run back onto its seals. This is a door people decide on by working it rather than by reading about it, which is why we keep one on the floor.
Order process
A clear process from first quote to aftercare.
Four steps. The first one has two ways in: price it yourself online, or have us come out. After that it runs the same either way.
Your price
Price it yourself on the online tool, or book a free consultation and we build the same quote with you. Both run on the same price list, so the figure matches.
Technical survey
Once you go ahead we survey before anything is made. Not a second sales visit: the measurements, thresholds and fixings the factory needs to build it right.
Installation
Fitted by our own installers rather than subcontractors, trained on the systems we sell and working carefully in a house someone lives in. We clear up after ourselves before we leave.
Aftercare
A ten year insurance-backed guarantee through the CPA on new windows and doors, and your FENSA certificate sent direct. Anything afterwards, you ring us, not a call centre.
What Milton Keynes homeowners say
Real reviews from real installations. Every one is public, so you can go and check them yourself.
Fenster have just completed a front door installation on my new property - fantastic job and strongly recommend! The online design tool is great, Perry back at HQ is brilliant as is his communication. Andy, who installed the door, is a top gent and professional. Will definitely be a returning customer.
Read on GoogleReally happy with the service we received from Fensters Windows. Aaron and Shane turned up on time and were both really friendly. They explained any issues as they went along and talked us through the different options, which we really appreciated. They did a great job fitting our new back doors and cleaned up everything afterwards. We also paid exactly what we had originally been quoted, with no unexpected extra costs. Really pleased with our new doors and would definitely recommend Fensters Windows. Thank you Aaron and Shane!
Read on GoogleWe have used Fensters for years on a variety of glazing work, and 2 door installations. They are competitively priced and responsive. They take great care over measuring and specifying the work, giving you a clear quote so you understand what you are getting (thanks Perry!). The fitters are all extremely competent and personable. We had to replace our front door for accessibility reasons, they gave us confidence that our requirements would be met, reproduced the intricate leaded and stained-glass pattern of our old door, and did a quality fitting job (thanks to Johnnie and Shane!). In summary they are our go-to suppliers for all replacement and repair work.
Read on GoogleI had an excellent experience with Fenster Glazing from start to finish. Nick Perry and David managed the initial quote to installation process seamlessly, keeping communication clear, honest, and completely stress-free. When it came to the actual fitting, Zac and Shane did a fantastic job with the installation, working efficiently and leaving everything spotless. The professionalism from the entire team was top-notch, and the final result looks brilliant. I highly recommend them.
Read on GoogleGreat service from Fenster Glazing, very happy with our new bi-fold door, glass door and windows (with built-in blinds) There was an issue with the wrong spec of glass provided to them from their supplier, so they had to temporarily board up a door and a window, but this was put right within a few weeks. Recommended, thanks.
